This wife and mother of three has always had a knack for storytelling. From an early age, Amaleka followed the encouragement of her teachers to write, earning her accolades. Time has only nurtured and matured that talent. She went on to earn her baccalaureate degree in Criminal Justice from St. John’s University and her Masters in Public Administration from John Jay College of Criminal Justice.

In 2003 she decided to take her imagination and put it to paper resulting in her debut novel – “A Twisted Tale of Karma,” a tale of a young woman who never dreamed her life would take a turn from bad to worse.

A few years later McCall just released her sophomore novel, “Hush.” She recently talked with OOSA about her talent and journey in the literary world.

What is your writing style? My writing style is one of my favorite ways to read books and view movies! I start my stories at the end or with a significant event. I like to begin with a bang and give the readers something to look forward to. My style (I hope) makes the readers want to know more about the character and their predicament.

What are you working on now? I am currently working on an untitled novel. It is different than anything I've ever written because one of the main characters is Caucasian. It was a challenge that I put myself up to. I decided to go outside of the box on this one. Although it is a cautionary tale like “Myra” and it deals with the criminal justice system like “Hush,” it stands alone on its own merits. I think the readers are going to like the fact that it’s different than anything out.

Why was “A Twisted Tale of Karma” retitled and re-released? The decision to re-release “A Twisted Tale of Karma” was solely up to the publisher. I was excited because I want all of the readers who haven't had an opportunity to read it to pick it up.

“A Twisted Tale of Karma” was released in 2005. Four years later you are preparing to release your sophomore novel, why the stretch in time? In mid-2006 I was released from my former publishing company. I had already completed “Hush” (originally titled In Too Deep) and was without a publishing home until last year. I am a true believer in what is meant to be will be. I won't question anything; I am looking forward not back!

Was the transition from one publisher to another hard? The transition to a new publisher was fairly easy since I was completely without a publisher for about 2 1/2 years. It is much different because I have learned a great deal from my first experience. I am excited and ready for the readers to enjoy my new material.

What is the most important thing you have learned about the book publishing process? I think the most important thing I have learned about the industry and the book publishing process is: True writers will have longevity!

What is the last book you read from start to finish? The last book I read from start to finish was "The Darkest Child" by Delores Phillips. I read it in 2 days! I am an avid reader. I live in the book store!
OOSA, thank you so much for the opportunity!!! I appreciate the support so much!
